    Airplane experience

    in General Discussion

My buddy Chicago Dave is planning a trip from NM to Chicago in August. He's trying to decide whether he'll fly, rent a car, or take the train (private room). Each has its plusses and minuses. Thing is, I just read a long Twitter thread where people are complaining that there are TONS of sick, coughing, unmasked people on airplanes. Have any of you flown since the mask mandate got lifted? What was your experience?

    I have not.

in fact, we planned our anniversary trip for the end of this month to be somewhere we could easily drive just so we don’t have to get on a plane this summer. We are seriously debating a December trip to the Mexican Riviera, which would have to be via flight. Gonna hold off a few months and see what the landscape looks like before we decide

@TotsNPears Yeah, who knows what will be happening in a few months. The horrifying undercount is troubling. I'm taking a long train trip in August (little private room) and I actually got insurance in case I want to cancel. The times we live in.

    Oh yes.

February 2023 my nephew will be getting married in Washington DC.

Since half our family lives in Oklahoma, that’s a guaranteed flight.

No way in February will any of us (we will have a couple of 80-something’s in tow) want to make that drive. I’m going to strategize our boosters- assuming those will still be a thing) to have maximum efficacy for when we make this flight. Not going to this wedding isn’t an option: this is a dearly loved relative and my MIL will be 85. Who knows how many chances at a family gathering like this she will have?

Besides, it’s her last unmarried grandchild and she actually did already miss one of her other ones wedding in 2020.

It pisses me the fuck off to no end that ignorant plague rats continue to propagate this thing and we have to make these kinds of decisions.

@TotsNPears Decision fatigue is real. You're in a hell of a spot but timing the booster is a golden idea. I have an immune system syndrome, not a type that endangers me, but technically I can get a booster. I'll time it for my vacation. My friend can't. I just advised him to maybe wait for the fall booster we all know is coming.

    I hate people.
