Thank Beelzebub I live in a blue state and I don't have to deal with much antivax crap. However, I think that just makes encountering one even mote jarring.

I'm involved in a particular social community, and I've found out that one member, a woman who I had previously thought an intelligent and decent person, is not vaxxed and will not vax. She's claiming a medical reason, but I've found out her "medical reason" is pure BS: some med she is taking has a boilerplate warning about "check with your doctor before <any number of things>" and one of those is before getting vaccines. And she's using that as her excuse for not getting vaxxed (and not talking about it to her doc so she can continue to use the excuse).

This knowledge has really changed the way I feel about this woman. She's a Trumper and AVer, and cowardly too to boot -- hiding behind "medical reasons" instead of owning her illogic and idiocy. Which she obviously recognizes at SOME level, or she wouldn't be so eager for a cover story.

I can hardly stand to even be in the same zoom with her anymore. In a way it's sad that I now know enough about a casual acquaintance to be repulsed.

@Renfield I wouldn't want to be anywhere close to a Trumper whether they are vaxxed or unvaxxed. First off, I don't trust them, second, I don't respect them and third, anyone that approves of Trump is not the kind of person I want to even be in the same room with, let alone, associate with .

I have a couple of casual acquaintances like that too. I belong to a support group of straight people whose spouses came out as gay after long marriages. One time, before the 2020 election, we were just starting our local zoom meeting and talking about how long the pandemic would last. I said that Dr. Fauci said that it would be about 1.5 years before a vaccine was developed. One of the guys on the zoom smiled and said, "oh the pandemic will go away in November, shortly after the election." I was totally confused, until I realized that he thought it was a Democratic "hoax". This same guy at a different time in a private conversation, got into an argument with my friend David (from the same support group), and he then told David to "go back to where you came from!" David is from Australia and has that beautiful accent. When David told me this story, I said, "I am guessing that is the first time anyone has ever said that to you" He laughed.

Another zoom meeting, same support group: I was asking a woman on there with a couple of tween daughters whether she was planning on getting her daughters vaccinated (they had JUST approved the vaccinations for kids over 5). She gave me that same smile that the guy in my previous story gave me and she said, "No, I don't think that covid is such a big deal. My sister had it and it only lasted a couple of weeks and she is OK." And when I asked if she was vaccinated, she smiled and said "No". Shortly after that, I got off the zoom meeting, because I was so enraged, I couldn't bear to be in her presence, even if it was only one zoom. AND SHE HAD BEEN THE ONLY ONE who asked David (who was the moderator) when we were going to go back to meeting in person, because she didn't like zoom!! As an aside, when that group has met in person, we have our founder who is 92 years old there, as well as a member who has had a kidney transplant and who has had a hard time developing antibodies (even after 4 shots). But, I am sure that anti-vaxxer doesn't give a shit that she could kill two people in our group, if she met with them indoors. I really HATE HER!!

I'd love to know which part of your DNA changes. For myself, I'd love to be a couple of inches taller, with thicker hair and also get rid of my familial hypercholesterolaemia.

oh I don't know. Question asked about my experience with antivaxxers. That is the type of reasoning I face. Also, "the shot is too new." They argue that it took forever to develop a polio vaccine and a smallpox vaccine, and the safety is known ...

Me too. In fact we just kind of smile at one another and move on. Where I'm at you can be very conservative but you don't boast about it unless you want the side eye. We mind our own business.

@Le Petomane Yes, I'm in one of the large Texas cities(blue, like you said) and have had no problems while wearing masks and most people have gotten vaccinated. But, I have several small town (red) friends who I can hardly talk to anymore because they have become so right-wing that they are not thinking straight. And, most of them would have severe problems if they caught Covid, but don't plan to get vaccines anymore.(They each got the first one.) Unfortunately, our current pathetic governor is red and nuts. He has done nothing to protect the health of the Texas citizens, because he wants his right-wing followers to re-elect him this Fall. But, many of them have died of Covid since he fought all measures to protect people, so I hope he will not be re-elected.

@barmatcat Actually, the tragedy of Texas is that for a brief period of time, Wheels did the right thing and instituted reasonable restrictions while allowing blue cities to do more strict lockdowns if they wanted.... and then Trump started screaming about liberating states, and Wheels fell over himsels removing all restrictions.

As to comments on Texas in general, I don't go to the rural areas. They're like a third world Christo-Fascist country. Absolutely insane.

I'm not sure any state has the ridiculous dichotomy that we do. You have four economically successful, modern, multi-cultural, moderately progressive mega-sized cities surrounded by a sea of shit.

Bro-in law, wife, two adult children strident ant-vaxxers. They have been anti-vaxx nut jobs long before covid. I have loathed their anti-science BS and general stupidity for decades.

They wanted the wider family to go to a restaurant that flouted vaccine pass laws at at the time. Told them that we were not going to support a law breaking venue by spending our money there. Ended up the whole family went to another restaurant that they were excluded from because they were not vaccinated. They were super pissed off 😂🤣😂 To make the win even better they are still not talking to us, fantastic. 😄 Oh, and they didn't like us flashing around the photos we took either. I get a warm glow just thinking about it lol.

I can think of a couple MAGA's who I wish remained unvaxxed, because they'd probably be dead by now. I have a feeling they got vaxxed early before all the prop got a hold of them, and due to medical conditions. But who knows if they're really vaccinated. Maybe they're not and they were just very lucky. They're pathological liars. I avoid them and they avoid me. Our paths no longer cross.

Oddly enough I Reblican friend that are very close to my family. They lost a very dear friend to to Covid bef the vaccine became available. They were first in line to get vaxxed. Both couple said theyd vax every week they had to to avoid their mutual friends sad end. I’ll tell ya’ anybody decides to be tough guys with those families will meet a gruesome end when the dust settles

What’s hilarious to me is the AVs who are fully vaxxed and fully boosted, yet boast that when they got COVID, it was a mild case (as though they beat it on their own). Yes, there are people like that. They all need counseling…intense, focused, psychiatric care.

I've written about this before, but both my wife and I have been physically attacked for wearing masks in public.

I was attacked in a restaurant in Wyoming after surgery at the Veterans Administration. My right hand was sliced open fingers to wrist and my arm was in a sling. A guy about a foot taller and over a hundred pounds heavier started threatening me in the restaurant bathroom. When I refused to remove my mask, he lunged and I broke his foot.

My wife was attacked outside our county seat by a man half her age when she was going into a store. A little old lady gave him a beatdown in the parking lot with her metal cane and sent him scampering.

We do what we can to avoid crazy people, but you really can't tell until they come upon you.

@FishGuy They just have to stay in the club. They’re terrified they’ll be shunned by their fellow Cons. That’s why so many fully vaxxed idiots went to that trucker convoy in Canada. They needed to prove their worth. The antivaxxers have somehow grabbed the power in the relationship. They’re the badass, cool ones. And the vaxxed somehow feel ashamed. So they’re the ones rushing to defend the indefensible. This dipshit is terrified he will get called a pansy or a snowflake.
