Okay, here is my take. Take from it what you will. I don't think Pence is a hero. What I think, after years of abuse and disparagement from TFG, he took his revenge. He used Dan Quayle and Paul Ryan as good Republican shields. He saw an opportunity and he took it. "Let's take him down" and this is the way I will do it. I don't think he was expecting as much push back from the "normal" Republicans. I think it was revenge. Not heroic.

My last gig, prior to retirement, was managing a bunch of consultants who were responsible for implementing software for government contractors. I moved to a +55 condo in St. Paul, MN 6 months before COVID. After I moved, I took advantage of cooking classes, (Bundt cakes and Christmas cookies are my specialties), and sewing classes. I also was regularly attending Silver Sneakers fitness classes and yoga sessions. In March 2020, my plans for retirement changed dramatically. When COVID started, I was a mask maven. My two dogs keep me good company. My sister keeps me updated on the latest and greatest streaming opportunities. My 95 yo mother survived COVID - as did the rest of my vaxxed family. Friends, who have different societal values than me, have gone by the wayside. I have no patience for neo fascists. I have no patience for faux Xtians. After the George Floyd murder, and the protests that followed, I thought things would get better. I thought maybe people had discovered some of their lost humanity. Boy was I ever wrong. The posts I read in the paper and on the Racist Nextdoor app are horrible. I come to SAV for the humanity each member of this community so clearly demonstrate. Thank you.

@bullet-tooth tony I was nicer pre-2016, too. I was still kind of nice pre-2020 but then learned about all the terrible people who live and breathe the racist/anti-science Nextdoor app. Reading comments from people who are my neighbors was truly horrifying. There is a faux Xtian in my building who hollered at me all the way through the garage after I told her I was happy Joe Biden was president and that my 95 yo mother had gotten her first vax. (January 2021). I'm pretty much a hermit now.

Thank you for the topic, @FishGuy . All the posts are so interesting and enlightening. The story of my screen name started back in March of 2021 (when I received my first and second vaccine). I was so happy, I called my son in NYC and booked a trip. The trip was fabulous. Delta still was blocking middle seats. Everyone was masked everywhere I went. People in the various airports were so kind and helpful All the restaurants had outdoor dining (to some extent). The subways were pristine. I watched the cleaners come on between stops and clean, clean clean. I felt like after the horrible year we had, that we were on our way out of this horrible time. As an optimist, and a Pollyanna, I felt like things were going to get better. Then, I started hearing about all the AV conspiracy theories that followed the COVID conspiracy theories and watched the cases going up and up and up. Delta arrived and people started getting sick and dying by the boatloads. Had to get off FB and Nextdoor because all the stupid was there rallying all the other stupid. Around September of 2021, I was just done. Really discouraged, depressed, and anxious. September was a very hard month for me. In October, I read about the SAV website. At first, I lurked. It was thrilling to see I wasn't alone. Then Vaxman promised the Dead Poets Society badge. I was all in with writing a poem. Named myself Plague Weary because that is what I was and that is what I am. That was back in October of 2021 - still here pretty much every day and donating once a month. Less expensive and more beneficial than therapy. So, pretty much this site and all the folks here have helped me so much. The funny, smart, talented, kind people here keep me from swirling down the vortex of depression and anxiety. Thanks, all!
