Great summary by Chris Hayes of what was at stake and the likely real reasons Pence was reluctant to leave the Capitol on Jan 6.

I believe that Pence had foreknowledge of something, even if he was not privy to the machinations of the coup plotters.
I'm not seeing the comments on my end.
In a word to describe the report:
"Chilling!".
To think that a coup could take place at the white house is unimaginable up to this point in my lifetime. As well, Mike Pence had more backbone than generally perceived.
I certainly want to see those responsible held accountable. To do less is a monumental travesty and unconscionable IMO.
This news has been out since shortly after January 6th and in fact, it was also reported in Leonnig & Ruckers's "I Alone Can Fix It" last year:
UK Independent: Mike Pence refused to get in car amid 6 January riots fearing Secret Service ‘conspiracy’, reports claim (16 July 2021)
Excerpt:
"Tim Giebels, the lead special agent in charge of the former vice president’s protective detail, reportedly “twice asked Pence to evacuate the Capitol” to which Mr Pence refused, The Post said. ...
“'I’m not getting in the car, Tim,' Mr Pence replied. 'I trust you, Tim, but you’re not driving the car. If I get in that vehicle, you guys are taking off. I’m not getting in the car.'”
But I'm glad the committee's bringing that to the public's attention in a high-profile way now. My bigger question is: What did Chuck Grassley know and when did he know it? How far did the plot go?
Insider: GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley briefly confuses everyone over announcement on Pence and Electoral College certification (5 January 2021)
Excerpt:
"GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley on Tuesday generated a whirlwind of confusion among reporters and on social media after suggesting that Vice President Mike Pence would not preside over the Electoral College certification on Wednesday.
"'We don't expect him to be there,' Grassley, 87, initially said of Pence, per Roll Call. As president pro tempore of the Senate, or the second-highest ranking official of the chamber, Grassley suggested he would stand in for Pence.
"But within minutes, Grassley backtracked. ..."
This loose end needs to be tied up.
Trump was staging a full-blown coup. Kidnapping the Vice President to prevent him from doing his job and republicans just say “meh”?
