I can only imagine what kind of world it would be had Gore “won” in 2000. Trump cries his rivers but Gore actually was robbed. Anyway, Gore was very aware of climate change and we would have had those years early on to start turning the ship instead of Bush/Cheney giving the fossil fuel industry whatever they wanted. No conflict of interest with Bush and Cheney both oilmen. Without bought and paid for republicans to stymie democrats at every turn, we could have been much farther along deploying renewables and slowing carbon emissions.

Now we have the southwest drying up and the Great Salt Lake is also turning into a toxic dustbowl. We have fires, floods, and lots more tornadoes and bigger hurricanes. Simulations now are predicting the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys could massively flood which could take out a huge amount of food resources. Arizona is about to take it in the shorts multiple ways as their Colorado river water gets cut way back.

Democrat’s IRA is our last chance to save this planet. What’s sad is it might already be too late as a lot of the alternative energy stuff takes time to build out and republicans will no doubt try to kill funding or whatever other shit they do for the fossil fuel industry. Plus, this is just us. We emit a huge amount of carbon, though, so IRA will still have a big effect but it won’t be enough without other countries doing similar efforts.

But everything we do now does buy time at a minimum and could be the things that bridge us to the future. Fusion just hit break even but while monumental, it’s not anywhere near usable excess power. We need time that we are rapidly running out of. And of course it will be republicans and the fossil fuel industry trying to grab the controls and power dive us into the concrete.

The bandages might stop the bleeding so we don't have gangrene set in. I guess that is why people are finding it hard to celebrate anything when they are limping along.

We had 11 years of an asshole CONservative not just deny science, but denied grants and research. Harper also gave RW rich and corporations tax cuts, sold resources, destroyed regulatory systems and environmental protections, denied public and first nations participation, used American strategists to help him campaign like a proper American mud slinger and cheater (See asshole Art Finkelstein...Rest in Piss... and his POS minions who were not satisfied with just undermining YOUR elections) and 100's of other things that Trump would have been proud to take credit for... and seemed to emulate as he did all asshole dictators and RW politicians.

Harper got me to worry more about the future of politics in Canada and tRUMP made me fear even more for yours. I am sad I was so right on...
