A magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck in central Japan on Monday
I was beginning the year a little depressed and not too wide awake being the celebration fireworks went on well into the morning. Seeing this made my feeling sorry for myself a very selfish act. Thankfully, there is still only one person killed in spite of the massive destruction.
In spite of fissures, people are carrying on...but hopefully will abide by evacuation orders.
This station is normally really busy, so it sould have been a real disaster had it not held up
so well.
The Tsunami waters are rushing in, but thankfully not nearly as high as the previous 2011 disaster.
The quake made for a surprising water spectacle in this canal
The aftershocks will continue to rock Japan for weeks, sadly. I did not include the devastating pictures. You can find them here: https://www.reuters.com/world/japan/magnitude-74-earthquake-strikes-japan-tsunami-warning-issued-2024-01-01/
