OK, I have to get this off my chest...
This afternoon I went into my office, and found out my boss' wife has Covid, so he's not at work(so that's a good start). The office consists of us retirees with two active duty Sailors. As a result, a lot of senior Sailors come in to shoot sea stories.
We had a Sailor come in who somehow tried to get a religious exemption to avoid the "jab", but because he is a special Rate(job assignment), he was slow-walked until DoD stopped caring(It happens, and I predicted it would). He's a Chief (senior enlisted, like a First/Master Sargent), and beside his stupid decision, he is the ideal Sailor. At this point, our Command Master Chief (highest senior enlisted, like a Sargent Major - I hope you are all learning something :)) comes in, and they start talking(luckily our Sailors aren't in the office). And then they say this:
Command Master Chief: (After Chief jokes about getting all the shots except one)So, did you get Covid?
Chief: No, did you?
CMC: Yeah, it was no big deal.(He had two shots, like the rest of us.)
Now normally, I get in their faces and become Instructor Kosh, but today I couldn't do it. I stormed out of my own office because I haven't wanted to knock out a Sailor this bad since I was a Sailor!
This. This is what we're dealing with. I literally check my temperature and O2 levels twice a day(because of comorbidities) and test myself every other day(out of my own pocket)because I work with other people, I'm the only one who wears a mask outside my office(who didn't come back to work after having Covid), and yet I know I'll catch if from someone who doesn't give a fuck. Meanwhile, I'm keeping an AV safe until he lucks out.
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. Here is a quote and an explanation of all of Kosh. If you like Sci-Fi, may I suggest Babylon 5?
I have now read this 5 times. I am lost. (I understand the heirarchy , but you lost me in the conversation and why it upset you. It bugs me I am so dense sometimes, but I am also old enough to have age to blame it on.)
So chief is the one who distressed you because he tried to get a religious exemption, and yet you say the Chief says he had a booster ... "Chief jokes about getting all the shots except one." Is he lying?
Asking for a religious exemption pisses me off as well. I see that you have comorbidities, as do I, but I cannot for the life of me see how the conversation was bad. Did you want the superior to say more? Is it his wife who has COVID? Did you feel they were trivializing it too much? Only answer when you are less angry as it obviously upset you greatly to need to vent.
PS: I loved Babylon 5.
Surprisingly, not fully. He's a InfoWars person, but he's also someone you can have a conversation with and not be preachy. He's very pro 2A, but he's also not a fan of Trump and seems to understand the points of view of others, including minorities. It's maddening, but he's not even "holy-roller", and can't stand militias. He knew he would lose his chance to retire(before others decided he wouldn't), got his affairs in order and excelled in his work, never faltering.
I think he just fell into the InfoWars/Dan Bongino vortex of stupid. It pisses me off because without them he is the conservative that makes you believe the dialogue and compromise is possible.
And that's why I want to introduce Alex Jones to the great Naval tradition of falling up metal ladders(stairs).
"When the long night comes, return to the end of the beginning."
The avalanch, it's coming.

Kosh ..... that Chief, the AV, was he also on board with all the extremism rubbish that usually goes along with AV?
I have read in several places that there's a lot of Reich-wing Xstain extremism in the armed forces, especially the USAAF. I don't know how true that is.
