I've been getting rides to a dentist (denture time!) from a close friend..who had Covid (or so she thinks) back in 2021, and got at least one shot since then.
Today, she notified me that her nephew (long story, she's living with her sister right now) has tested positive for Covid.
Now-I've been fully vaccinated and boosted, but on the very serious chance that I could have been exposed to him (I was at their house but not in close quarters) I picked up 2 tests-one for her, and one for me.
She tested while we were waiting for the dentist's office to call me in-and she was positive.
We were masked then. (I'd gotten the tests and masks at the nearest company store and I even saw one of the pharmacists I've worked with there...alas..)
Got the appointment done, and I got home. Fucked up the first test (I can't read directions worth a shit)
but the second one came up negative, as I had hoped it would.
I was seriously panicked because a positive reading would mean I'd have to call the dental office, my work place to cancel work for the weekend and explain to the dental place that they would have to test, as well as my neighbor.
I am, to say the least, relieved, but puzzled. I wonder if it was just luck or was it my being boosted that saved me?
I think a little of both-and I'm going to have to test again in two days so that I can have my hair appointment that day.
I hate this shit. Love my friend, but she never got the full series of shots, because she's convinced that having Covid protects you more than any vaccination.
I wish there was some way to instruct everyone that this is not a joke.
This is the second time I've had to test because of proximity to someone who tested positive. That first one came back negative too.
Question: anyone else have any false alarms? Isn't it maddening? Doesn't it feel like Russian Roulette?
Don’t wait two day to test again, Mary. Hammer testing. The rapid tests miss and you want to know immediately if you’re positive so you can get Paxlovid. This thing is coming for all of us. It’s just insanely transmissible. I burn through tests. I am exposed to sick bastards all the time and I want a leap on Paxlovid when the time comes. Hope you escaped it.
