Fox and friends confront billion-dollar US lawsuits over election fraud claims

    in General Discussion

Right wing networks Fox News, OAN and Newsmax could be found liable in cases brought by voting machine company Dominion. In the months following the 2020 US presidential election, rightwing TV news in America was a wild west, an apparently lawless free-for-all where conspiracy theories about voting machines, ballot-stuffed suitcases and dead Venezuelan leaders were repeated to viewers around the clock.

There seemed to be little consequence for peddling the most outrageous ideas on primetime.

But now, unfortunately for Fox News, One America News Network (OAN), and Newsmax, it turns out that this brave, new world wasn’t free from legal jurisdiction – with the three networks now facing billion-dollar lawsuits as a result of their baseless accusations.

Huffington Post has an interesting article about what is likely to come out in discovery - lots of coordination with trump’s white house. Sounds like it could be very damning all around.

“Fox News Potentially Facing Major Financial Damage In Dogged Suit Over Election Lies”

“Discovery in the case could reveal bombshell messages among the Trump White House, Fox personalities, and even Rupert Murdoch.”

Rupert Murdoch has interfered with a number of federal Australian elections (sadly getting what he wanted). He is a cancer on society, a blood sucking leech that poisons, and corrupts any democracy he has his hand in.

Even though he was born (more like spawned) here in Australia, please keep him over there as we don't want this vile, corrupt, and hateful person here anymore.

He was successful running a scare campaign in 2018, which saw a clueless conservative government returned to power.

But his interference could not prevent the conservative governments "drubbing" during our federal election this year

I don't even have a TV anymore, but when I did, Fox came prepackaged into programming and was added to every one even if you paid for movies, sports and other packages, it was in every package regardless. Now you choose a basic package for 25 bucks and pick and choose whatever else you want to add. At 1/25, Fox is in all of the cheapest packages... https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/crtc-rules-cable-companies-must-offer-pick-and-pay-channels-25-basic-package-1.3001370

From what I have read, the USA pays more...

EVEN IF YOU NEVER WATCH FOX NEWS

    YOU'RE FUNDING THEIR PROGRAMMING

    Great news! Thank you

Fox "news" demanding freedom of the press when it hires non-journalists and will not air anything but RW lies and garbage spewed for paid liars... is ludicrous.

I hope Fox, Newsmax, and OAN get sued into oblivion, along with all those lying fuckers on those networks.

And I hope Rupert Murdoch has a case of explosive diarrhoea, in a crowded environment where everyone will have their phones out videoing of all the world to see.

I hope Fox, Newsmax, and OAN all get destroyed by the Dominion lawsuits.

They have all been a pox on this country and they all ruled out reaching any kind of civil consensus on the extremely pressing issues the country and world faces.

I hope they get ground into dirt and put out of business. Fuck Fox and Friends and the rest of them. Fuck Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, or any of the other idiots that fill American heads with pro-oil Russian propaganda. And most of all, fuck Rupert Murdoch. With something big and sharp-edged.

After two years which have seen Fox News lunge even further towards the right wing of US politics, the news channel may now start to suffer the consequences, with the launch of a campaign to strip the news channel’s Foxnews.com website of advertising revenue.

Check My Ads, an organization run by two former marketers, launched its campaign to target Fox News in early June, accusing the news channel and its website of “working overtime to fuel the next insurrection”.

More than 40,000 people joined the campaign in the first five days, forming an increasingly powerful lobbying group which aims to get ad exchanges to drop Foxnews.com.

The campaign comes at a time when prominent Fox News hosts are downplaying the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol in Washington as “a forgettably minor outbreak” of “mob violence”, continuing to dabble in election conspiracy theories, and have most recently begun to brand school teachers and drag performers as “groomers”.

When you buy a cable package aren't you purchasing a subscription? Some cable companies offer ala carte cherry picking of channels but I don't know what those stats are who intentionally purchase fox.

"Fox News is the most-watched cable news channel in the US, and is a huge opponent." (From the article)

How ever fox is accessed, people chose to watch it. The article suggests big name sponsors lend credence to the channel regardless of the content. This leads to the purpose of check my ads strategy which will have some effect on sponsors once it affects their bottom line.

The article's title is misleading; Fox "News" is NOT a "news channel"! I'm not just saying that because I personally dislike their right-wing spin; Fox "News" has successfully argued in court that they're not a "news channel".
