Someone stated on Twitter tonight that they didn't understand "Why were Senate Republicans willing to ruin the lives of people who voted for them in order to own the libs?" (This question stems from Senate Republicans blocking the passage that would reduce the cost of insulin to $35 for everyone.)
Below is the best answer I have read:

Money and power. They are bought by gun, pharma, Russian, social media, and other lobbies.
Thatās why they vote against voters. They sell their souls for money so they can buy power.
The lies, fraud, and grift are just a bonus.
Easy; the GOP works for its big donors, such as the pharmaceutical industry, and not for its voters. All it has to offer voters is culture wars.
That was well written but hard to fit on a postcard or meme. CONservatives are assholes sums it up and simplifies that.
The GOP has convinced many people that their lives are hell because of libruls, that that can never change, and that government is the problem. There are reasons they discourage people from watching mainstream media by calling it fake news. People might find out that the GQP is about to end their social security like they've chipped away at everything else. Best to distract people with wild conspiracy theories from Alex Jones until all social supports are gone.
It's all about syphoning off more profit for the already rich.
They do it because it best serves their donors, and because there is little cost to them at the polls. Their voters are easily led around by a ring through their collective nose and will vote for them anyway. I live near the West Virginia border, though outside the state. They went nearly 69% for Trump in 2020, AFTER four years of seeing exactly who and what he is. Now, after many years, I have come to three conclusions about West Virginia:
1) There is nothing you can do for them,
2)There is nothing you can do with them, and
3) There is nothing you can do about them.
They will vote against their own best interests time and time again. I like to call it Appalachian Stockholm Syndrome, but the same could be said of many other places that voted for Trump in large numbers. In the case of West Virginia, voters identify with the coal companies that hate them.
