That's a heavy load of loss for you. I'm so sorry. No one I know died from influenza or Covid or was hospitalized from either - and I'm up there in age. I live in very blue Minneapolis, where mask and shut-down compliance was high, as is the vaccination rate. A nephew lives in a MAGAt suburb- his neighbors dropped like flies from April 2020 through Delta in winter 2021. Our next door neighbor is a paramedic in a different MAGAt area. He considers Covid19 a Darwinian thinning of the GOP herd.

@Kiki Not sure if the research I saw is new or from last fall, but yes, allergies are associated with some level of protection. Allergies with asthma even moreso. I hope it's true, because I have raging allergies. How lively it would be for 57 years of suffering from them to result in some advantage now.

Yeah, this is all pretty early and longer term focused research should clarify whether or not it was just correlation.

Having them. Allergic reactions in the upper respiratory tract cause changes that somehow prevent covid viruses from doing their thing in the lungs. Not sure how conclusive this research is.

Crazy lucky or just crazy? 😅 I'm now double vaxxed, but we never stopped masking. We never resumed going to crowded events. We only socialize with other careful, vaxxed people. And since Omicron's new variants are now in the area, I'll resume ordering groceries for curbside pickup. Another piece of crazy luck: researchers are trying to find out why some medical folks who had high Covid exposure pre-vaccine never got sick. High on the list of possible protections are type blood O, any blood type with negative RH factor, and upper respiratory allergies. I have two out of three, so maybe the masks weren't the reason. Who knows? I know the SAV and HCA crowds are doing our best to prevent tbe spread, and I'm proud to know of these communities.
