I would love to see the community continue, whatever the topic (SAV, politics, recipes, the weather). I have loved reading thoughtful, intelligent, scurrilous, hilarious, profane, educated, and articulate commentary from the members, & have fallen in (platonic) love with each and every one of you. I too am not a fan of Twitter (whatever its name today) and FB, and I'm dubious about reddit given its recent turmoil. But I will go wherever this group goes.

It's fiction, but I think "Doomsday Book" by Connie Willis should be required reading for everyone during this pandemic. It's about the Black Death, and a modern viral plague.

Unfortunately, there are no consequences to fomenting violence when you're a Republican (cf. Jan 6).

@DeathofRats-BadgeHoorMaroon That's not so far off the mark. In the book Renfield ate flies because he believed the more *lives* -- any kind of lives -- he consumed, the more *life* he'd have.

And this, children, is why we're all here, and why we're so damn angry/disgusted/upset/homicidal about the anti-vaxxers. If it affected only them, the AVs, and nobody else, I would say "knock yourselves out!" to the willfully vax resistant, and shed no tears when they inevitably died. But it doesn't. There are kids under 5, and people who legitimately can't be vaxxed (I know exactly 1), and people whose vaccinations may not be as effective because they're immuno-compromised. And many/most of these people are good and decent folk (or young and innocent) who do not deserve the derision we reserve, rightly IMHO, for those who believe anything their hairdresser's third cousin's stepsister says on FB, but not anyone who spent many, many years studying to become a medical professional.

Chose Renfield because in Dracula he's the madman (& Drac's henchman) who is obsessed with how many lives he consumes. I thought it was an appropriate handle, given the site subject matter.
