These people are so, so stupid. In fact, the more I watch the more I think that maybe stupid people are smarter than they are.

And the horrible thing is that the approval rating doesn't matter. Those assholes are appointed for life. Why would they care?

@SadButTrue Honestly I think they'd stay in their little square of hell thinking it's heaven. The liberals are devils after all and best to avoid us. They'd whine for more money though and probably end up shooting each other a lot.

@SadButTrue A lot of folks do think that so this is exactly what they want. As far as ugliness goes, I am wondering if some of it can be avoided by simply letting them become a separate country. They won't have a ton of tax dollars so they'll have to rely on their citizens for defense which may work fine for them. They all have guns. I mean it would be a horrible way to live but if we require passports from them and some kind of permission to be able to travel outside their own separate areas I guess it could be doable at least for the rest of us. Need to make sure they don't have nuclear power though. They're dumb enough to bomb the world if someone looks at them wrong.

@SadButTrue They don't want the government to be able to force businesses to supply birth control as part of their health insurance. Some very conservative Christian sects think that birth control is an early abortion, that it destroys an embryo.

Thomas already said he wants to go after birth control and gay marriage. I'm sure they will quite soon.

With this we are no longer one united country. Each state can now decide what laws they want based on whatever political power has majority in the state. We've effectively split up which weakens us all.

I did read, and I hope it's not accurate, that they threatened any parent who tried to enter the school with a taser. It probably is accurate though. It sounds like something cops would do since they also try to stop people from entering burning houses in the same manner. It's just horrific for so many reasons the main one being that we find the situation acceptable in our country as long as we keep our guns.

I don't even know as I blame the cops. It's just an excellent example in my mind that "all is takes is a good guy to take down a bad guy" is stupid. When someone is in that situation you don't know how they'll react. Some people will freeze, some people will act but it will be stupid, and yes some people can stop someone else. But there's no way to predict who that will be. So no, putting guns in the hands of more people is not the answer. We have guns in the hands of just about everyone and in this case it literally happened. Tons of armed people were around this guy and he still managed to kill 21 people. The problem is fucking too many guns in the hands of too many people who want to kill others. Yes we need to address our people problem but our gun problem needs to be addressed just as much.

@Dip Dibbler I agree that any legislative action talked about right now will do buttkiss. But there is legislative action that will. Simply making automatic rifles illegal to buy would be a good start. Holding people accountable if their guns are used in illegal methods might be another. Raising the age of gun ownership. And yes addressing mentally ill issues in this country. We cannot expect communities to deal with their mentally ill members without help or assistance.

Actually he's going to federal prison. Will automatically do at least 85% of his prison term so that is over a decade. And no conjugal visits, probation for 20 years with no access to internet allowed, no unsupervised visits with any minors including his own, and few other great little tidbits I can't remember now. His life will never return to what his was presentencing. And for that I rejoice.

I don't know they voted but I know how Texas as a whole voted. We've got the politicians we have because enough people voted them in.

It's the speed that matters. Sure he could have killed as many with a low-caliber 22 varmint rifle. Shoot a knife can even kill 19 people. But it would have taken longer. We would have had loss of life but probably not as many. Just because we can't make things perfect doesn't mean we can't make things better.

We know. We know we suck at this. We're just so fucking dumb here. There are many wonderful things about a multiculturalist nation. But because we have so many cultures, desires, moralities, and people willing to manipulate others based on those, we have a lot of education problems. We are simply nothing like the UK.

And it only took Texas republicans 24 hours to remind us that they don't plan to do anything to make sure this doesn't happen again.
