Yes, Pence was a major enabler of Psycho Donnie's insanity right from the beginning of their term. But it's come to my attention that it could have been worse: There were 2 other VP candidates vying for vice-enabler: Newt and Christie. Donnie's family and Fox Noise liked Newt best, and Christie slobbered all over Donnie for the job. Christie's real bad but can you even imagine how horrific a Newt vice-presidency would have been? I didn't know at the time that he was even an option. Read the whole sordid story about how this went down: Politico: "How Pence’s Camp Persuaded Trump to Pick Their Guy as VP" https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/09/11/mike-pence-donald-trump-vp-228059/

Merrick Garland swore in 200 new immigrants at Ellis Island, after which he made quite an inspirational speech. Heather Cox Richardson talked about it in last night's column September 19, 2022, so I had to look it up. Here's the whole video, on Facebook (but you don't have to be a member to see): Attorney General Merrick Garland administers the Oath of Allegiance to 200 citizenship candidates from 57 countries, and delivers remarks inside Ellis Island's historic Great Hall The acoustics in that building aren't so great, unfortunately. The call of countries starts around 33:30, then Merrick starts the oath at 40 minutes, and then he speachifies. Very inspiring! Also inspiring is the end of Heather's column above. The walls are closing in on Psycho Donnie, with a little help from that new special master. He seems intent on refusing to let Donnie drag out justice.

Found a new favorite band yesterday at the state fair. Tom Mason & the Blue Buccaneers out of Nashville. Check out that phenomenal fiddle in this well-known Irish tune ...

Yesterday I served as an election judge for our Minnesota primary. They try to get an equal number of Dem and Republican judges, so normally we have some Republican judges, even though in Minneapolis most of us are Democrats. Some of the tasks require party balance, like assigning one Democrat and one Republican to a voter who needs help marking their ballot. Yesterday morning, the head judge asked if any politically unaffiliated judges were present, to provide that balance. That's because Minneapolis Republicans boycotted the process, citywide. The one Republican who signed up to be a judge in our precinct called in "sick." They seem to be practicing for November—setting up an excuse for losing a city that won't vote for them anyway. ("Those durn libruls kept us out and stole the election.") And generally delegitimizing democracy. I didn't see any news about it in the local paper today, so I sent them a tip. The reporter was surprised and said they'd definitely follow up on it. The news needs to get out there before November.

The other day I heard an MSNBC interview with Neal Katyal, who has served as a high-ranking lawyer in government. He said Psycho Donnie probably will not do jail time, for one, because how could the secret service guard him there? It just won't work. Besides, Donnie knows he's looking at the rest of his life in court. With all the lawsuits against him, he'll end up losing everything. Since Donnie prizes money over everything, wouldn't his financial losses be more satisfying than jailing him? I'm giving that a big FUCK NO. If he'd been impeached and removed from office, he could have lost his secret service detail, along with all the other privileges of an ex-president. Why is it any different bringing charges afterward? As far as the money goes, he's quite capable of raking in hundreds of millions from his witless fans*—at the same time the GQP is paying all his legal bills, even for his personal business crimes. * Insider: Trump campaign made $80,000 a day selling MAGA hats, according to Jared Kushner's new memoir
