According to this obituary, Jim died of COVID on November 26, 2021. Jim was a kidney recipient some years ago, but that kidney turned faulty recently. On November 12 he underwent surgery to insert a tube in his stomach so he could undergo dialysis at home while waiting for a new kidney. In the meantime, however, he caught COVID, and already having a bad kidney didn't help matters. He got pneumonia and died two weeks later. Jim was an adamant anti-vaxxer, which seems strange for someone who is only alive because of a previous medical miracle.

I just found out that my BIL was in the same hospital at the same time. Covid of course, unvaccinated. He mentioned more than once how many people they lost in his two weeks there. He got "lucky" and made it out. Has o2 as constant companion now. I wanted to ask him if he was going to get a sidecar for his oxygen bottle, but haven't had the chance.
Enough about me, News update: Jim's still dead.
An oldy but a goodie. Wish I had read this one sooner because it's one of the best! What dumbass who has a totally compromised set of organs (and a blood type that means years of waiting!!!!) that do things like filter impurities out of your blood doesn't take steps necessary to stay healthy? This one. Thanks, Jim, for dying before you got high enough on the donor list to suck a perfectly good kidney away from someone who deserves it. Burn in hell, Jim!
